Our two-day Tambopata Amazon Tour is a custom-made itinerary that offers an overview of life in the Tambopata jungle with a local tour guide.
Puerto Maldonado serves as the gateway to the Tambopata National Reserve. There are regular flights to Puerto Maldonado from the Peruvian capital of Lima and Cusco. This makes it an ideal destination for the Amazon Jungle Tour.
Tambopata Amazon dominates a large part of Peru’s Amazon rainforest. It also houses several distinct species of flora and fauna. One of the must-see attractions is the Macaw Clay Lick, the largest in the world.
Hundreds of macaws, parrots, and brightly colored parakeets flock here to ingest the clay from the cliff. The clay here has a distinctive mineral content that helps these birds to remove toxins from their bodies.
The Tambopata National Reserve also houses several beautiful Oxbow lakes.
At Paradise Yakarai, we take pride in working with local tour guides. Our tour guides were born and raised in the region. They have extensive knowledge about different species of plants, animals, and birds.
To make your experience on the Tambopata Amazon Tour authentic, we will serve you traditional Amazonian meals each time you are in the jungle. We will also be accommodating you in a traditional Amazon lodge where you will get a first-hand experience of life in the Peruvian Amazon jungle.
08:00 AM: We will pick you up and transfer you to the boat dock at Puerto Acosta. Here you will board the motorized boat for a 30-minute journey along the Madre de Dios River to our exclusive Paradise Amazon Ecolodge.
Our team will assist you with the check-in process. After a short rest here, we will embark on our tour of the Tambopata National Reserve.
We will start with a short 200-meter walk from our lodge to the Canopy Tower. It stands at 35 meters high and is built at the base of a massive Lupuna Tree, representing the Amazon with its enormous size.
Throughout the day, you will be able to observe various bird species here. Our local expert will provide detailed explanations about the flora and fauna of the area.
Once you’ve had your fill of the canopy walk, we will zip-line through the forest. Our local instructor will provide safety tips and share information on how to make the most of this activity. All set, you’ll glide down the 190-meter long zip-line.
One of our monitors will greet you and assist you in crossing a small 100m bridge. You will then return to the starting point by zip-lining.
After experiencing this, we will return to the lodge for lunch. Our team will serve you an authentic Amazonian meal. After lunch, you will have time to relax in the hammocks at our lodge.
Early in the afternoon, we will embark on a kayaking adventure. We will take the kayaks from our lodge, and our team will help you gear up with all the necessary safety equipment.
Once ready, we will start the experience. A safety boat will follow you to ensure all travelers are managing well.
You will then have the chance to cool off from the Amazon heat by taking a dip in the cool waters of the Madre de Dios River.
After enjoying kayaking, we will return to our boat for a 15-minute downstream trip to Monkey Island. As the name suggests, the island is home to various species of monkeys.
You will see a group of capuchin monkeys, black monkeys (Cebus apella), white-faced monkeys (Cebus albifrons), among others. Most of these breeds are friendlier in nature. Accompanied by a local expert, you can get close to them and feed them while witnessing their coexistence in the Tambopata National Reserve.
After this experience, we will return to the lodge by 04:30 PM. You will be able to witness the sunset in the Amazon here.
After sunset, we will embark on a boat ride equipped with reflectors and headlamps to spot alligators. The reflecting lights from their eyes will make it easier for you to spot them at night.
You will get to spot White Alligators and Dwarf Caimans here.
By 07:30 PM, we will return to the lodge for dinner and a well-deserved rest.
You will wake up to the sound of chirping birds. Our crew will serve you a delicious Amazon breakfast. Our traditional breakfast consists of fresh fruit juice, a cup of freshly brewed Peruvian coffee, eggs, pancakes, fried plantains, and more.
At 09:30 AM, we will take the boat and cross the river to reach the control post. Here, the details of each visitor will be registered by local authorities. We will then embark on an hour’s hike covering three kilometers to Sandoval Lake.
During the hike, you will have the opportunity to spot different varieties of flora and fauna. You may also spot giant river otters among other mammals and animals here.
Once on the shores of Lake Sandoval, we will serve you a delicious lunch amidst the jungle. We will then take a rowing boat and sail to the center of the lake to spot more birds and mammals.
The region is home to hoatzins, cormorants, and anhingas. Occasionally, travelers have spotted the iconic “Playful River Wolves”. After getting an immersive sight of life in Lake Sandoval, we will return to the lodge.
We will serve lunch and then transfer you to Puerto Maldonado.
Depending on your flight or bus schedule, we will transfer you to the airport or bus terminal.
