Overview

We will venture into the heart of the Peruvian Amazon with our Lake Sandoval Tour. This unforgettable journey will take us to the breathtaking Peru Tambopata National Reserve, one of the richest ecosystems on Earth. We will travel along the Madre de Dios River and discover the hidden treasures of Sandoval Lake Peru. Towering palm trees, mirror-like waters, and unique wildlife will surround us from the very start.

We will explore the Peruvian jungle together, guided by nature’s sounds, colors, and rhythm. Every boat ride and forest trail may offer a new discovery  from howler monkeys calling above us to giant river otters gliding through the water. In the stillness of the rainforest, we will feel nature’s pulse. The Amazon rainforest will awaken all our senses and invite us to slow down and connect.

This tour will immerse us in a rich tapestry of flora and fauna. We may see caimans resting near the lake’s edge or parrots gathering at sunrise. The natural habitat will surprise us with its balance of calm beauty and wild energy. We will sleep near the lake at Sandoval Lake Lodge, surrounded by jungle life both day and night.

Together with Paradise Yakari, we will uncover the mysteries of one of Peru’s most magical regions. The Lake Sandoval Tour will not only show us nature, it will teach us to listen to it. The experience will remain with us, much like the colors of a Rainbow Mountain Peru day tour.

Itinerary

Day 1Forest, Kayak, Monkey Island and Caiman Spotting

We will begin the tour in the city of Puerto Maldonado at 8:00 A.M After check-in, we will drive to Puerto Acosta for a 30-minute boat ride. We will cruise down the Madre de Dios River, observing jungle scenery along the way. Paradise Tambopata EcoLodge will greet us with local staff and tropical welcome drinks.

Once settled, we will hike through primary and secondary forest trails. Our guide will explain the ecological differences and the variety of flora we will find. We may spot medicinal plants, colorful insects, and towering trees like the lupuna. This walk will help us connect with the natural beauty of the Peruvian jungle.

After lunch and rest in hammocks, we will paddle kayaks down the river. A motorized boat will follow for safety as we enjoy the calm waters. We may swim and float alongside the forested banks of the Madre de Dios River. Kayaking will let us feel the pulse of the jungle in complete tranquility.

Later, we will visit Monkey Island, just 15 minutes downstream by boat. We may observe capuchins and squirrel monkeys moving freely among the trees. These animals live in balance with the ecosystem and show natural curiosity. We will return to the lodge by 4:30 P.M for a short break.

At night, we will set off on a boat ride to look for black and dwarf caimans. Their glowing eyes reflect our lights from the riverbanks. With luck, we may also see large adult caimans resting in the shallows. This caimaneo will offer a thrilling glimpse into the jungle’s nocturnal life.

We will return for lunch at the lodge and take time to relax before the next journey.  In the afternoon, we will cross the Madre de Dios River by boat to the Reserve entrance.  We will walk 3 km through lush jungle trails with towering palm trees.  This trail may reveal macaws, frogs, butterflies, and a wide variety of flora.

Once we reach Sandoval Lake, we will paddle in wooden boats with no motors.  We may see hoatzins, cormorants, herons, and  if lucky a family of giant river otters.  The lake offers mirror-like reflections and stillness that define the Amazon rainforest.  This peaceful ride will let us witness the natural habitat of many unique species.

We will return to the lodge before nightfall to prepare for the evening walk.  At 6:30 P.M., we will set out into the forest with flashlights and a local guide.  We may encounter night birds, frogs, spiders, and glowing fungus among the undergrowth.  Night walks reveal a different side of the jungle filled with quiet sounds and hidden life.

We will learn traditional methods and try to catch piranhas, catfish, or sardines. The peaceful waters and the sounds of the forest will create a perfect final morning.
