The Anaconda Searching & Macaw Clay Lick tour will take us through deep rainforest and winding Amazon rivers. We will begin with a gentle boat ride that follows narrow channels filled with birds and towering trees. Light clothing and hydration will keep us comfortable during the warm and humid journey. This first section will prepare us for the wetlands where anaconda searching moments will become possible.
Our day will continue through quiet marsh zones that reach several meters or feet in depth. We will explore safe areas where large anacondas often rest near sunlit lagoons. The forest will open into wide clay walls where the macaw clay lick brings colorful parrots every morning. Our guide will explain why clay licks eat the clay macaw clay, creating one of the rainforest’s most fascinating scenes.
Later, short trails will lead us through forest zones filled with orchids, medicinal plants, and hidden wildlife. We will enjoy peaceful river sounds, warm meals, and comfortable lodging after each outing. Every moment will mix nature, culture, and exciting sightings that may appear at any turn. This experience will offer a balanced combination of adventure and learning in the heart of the Amazon.
We will begin our full day at 4:30 a.m. in Puerto Maldonado, boarding a comfortable motorized boat for a two-and-a-half-hour ride along the Tambopata River. As the sun rises, calm waters, misty shores, and tall jungle trees will appear in soft morning light. Along this stretch of river, capybaras, caimans, river turtles, and monkeys often show themselves while the forest slowly wakes.
Our route will take us deeper toward the Sachavacayoc community inside the Tambopata National Reserve. After arriving, we will prepare for a long hike of more than 5 kilometers. The trail moves through dense rainforest shaped by palms, bamboo, muddy patches, and narrow wildlife corridors. Natural sounds, shifting shadows, and sudden movements will remind us that the jungle is active at every step.
Tapir Lake comes next, a peaceful wetland known as one of the best places for anaconda searching throughout the year. Tall reeds surround its dark, reflective waters, creating quiet hiding spots for wildlife. Here we will explore the edges, where anacondas often rest near fallen logs or shallow banks. Our guide will help us understand how these reptiles use the lake’s ecosystem to stay hidden.
A visit to three nearby clay licks will add a burst of color to the experience. These clay walls attract parrots and large macaws every morning, filling the air with bright feathers and loud calls. We will learn why macaws return daily and how eating clay supports their diet. Watching them gather in one place creates one of Amazon’s most iconic natural shows.
By late afternoon, we will return to the boat and begin the journey back to Puerto Maldonado. Changing light along the river often brings new wildlife, making the return trip just as scenic as the morning. This full-day adventure will reveal the depth of jungle life, the beauty of rare species, and the wild character of the Tambopata rainforest.
This tour was incredible! We spotted large macaws, playful monkeys, and even an anaconda at Tapir Lake. The guide was knowledgeable and patient, explaining everything about the wildlife. The boat rides were smooth, and the forest trails felt safe and well-planned. I highly recommend this for anyone visiting Puerto Maldonado.
A truly unforgettable Amazon adventure! The clay licks were stunning, filled with scarlet and red-and-green macaws. Hiking through the rainforest felt immersive, and we learned so much about the ecosystem. The guide made the experience fun and educational. Wildlife sightings along the river were constant, and every moment felt special.
